NEWFIELD, N.Y. — New Planets will present The BBQ VIII on Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29, at its new home at Stone Bend Farm, located approximately 20 minutes south of Ithaca.
Now in its eighth year, the independently organized festival will feature more than 30 musical acts across three stages, including Saturday headliner Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. Attendance is limited to 350 ticket holders.
Weekend and single-day passes are available. On-site camping is also offered, with checkout scheduled for noon Sunday.
A new home at Stone Bend Farm
Located at 196 Porter Hill Road, Stone Bend Farm is a working farm featuring a timber-framed barn and wood-fired oven. The venue will provide pizza and beverages throughout the weekend while hosting the festival’s music, camping and community activities.
The festival’s main stage is sponsored by Toro and The Highly Connected. Two additional stages will host late-night performances after the main-stage programming concludes.
Gates open Friday at 11 a.m.
A map of the grounds places the main entrance on Porter Hill Road, with the Toro and Healing Arts stages, the kids zone and the food vendors clustered near the greenhouse. Tent, car and RV camping are marked around the edges of the field.

New Planets return as festival hosts
The BBQ was founded and continues to be organized by Ithaca-based band New Planets. The group combines psychedelic rock with elements of funk, world music and electronic music and has appeared at Ithaca Reggae Fest and venues throughout the region.
New Planets will perform under its own name Friday before returning Saturday for a collaborative New Planets & Friends set.
The lineup reflects the festival’s continued focus on musicians from Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse and the surrounding Upstate New York music community.
Healing arts and workshops
In addition to live music, The BBQ VIII will offer a full Healing Arts program presented by Attuned Life Massage & Wellness.
Activities scheduled throughout the weekend include breathwork, Qi Gong, yoga, vocal workshops, acroyoga, meditation, somatic sound, relationship workshops and other wellness-focused sessions. Programming will be available Friday and Saturday.
Family activities
The festival will include a children’s tent presented by Aspen Grove Preschool, along with camp-style screenings of retro movies. Children under age 12 receive free admission.
Local food and beverages
Food and drink options will be provided by four local vendors:
- Stone Bend Farm: Wood-fired pizza and beverages
- Van Noble Farm: Righteous BBQ
- Copper Horse Coffee: Coffee, breakfast and ice cream
- Luau Lads: Cocktails and mobile bar service
Breakfast and coffee will be available for overnight campers through Copper Horse Coffee.
Camping and ticket information
Tent camping includes access to showers and outhouses. Camping passes are sold separately from festival admission, so guests staying on-site must purchase both an admission ticket and the appropriate camping pass.
Getting gear to the tent area
Tent-only campers may drop camping supplies at the front parking area, but all supplies must then be walked or carted in. Organizers say staff will be on hand to help as campers arrive.
Organizers ask campers to be respectful of their neighbors. Pop-up canopies are permitted.
Parking across the road
VIP parking is available across the road at $15 a day or $25 for the weekend. Passes are issued for the dash, and vehicles may come and go. The lot is run by the neighbors.
