For over 30 years, on banjo and pedal steel guitar, Gordon Stone has been writing his genre-crossing music, and now attracts international attention with his latest configuration of musicians including, former band member, Caleb Bronz on drums, and UVM’s Jon McCartan on bass. Gordon Stone is the real deal and has site in with the likes of Phish, Everyone Orchestra, and moe. and many others.

In 2005 Gordon won “Best Instrumentalist” and his fifth studio recording, “Rhymes With Orange” won “Best Instrumental Album” – He won an Emmy for his work on Vermont Public Television’s “Windy Acres” – He has been busy working on a new musical configuration with African hand drummers so look for more exciting work from this venerable freelance banjo picker and pedal steel gordon1guitarist.

In the 90’s you could find Gordon in the studio recording with “Phish” on their releases “Picture of Nectar” and “Rift” or jammin’ with them live on stage.

Forming the Gordon Stone Trio with Jazz Mandolin Project’s mandolinist Jamie Masefield and bassist Stacy Starkweather, they recorded a CD of Gordon’s original music, “Touch and Go” featuring many of Vermont’s finest musicians. Gordon’s first album “Scratchin the Surface” was re-released to CD at this time too. They toured regionally gaining recognition at the many colleges, theaters and festivals they played such as Phish’s “Clifford Ball”, “Great Went” and “Lemonwheel”.

After some personnel changes, the Trio became Band with the addition of drummer Russ Lawton, known for his drumming and songwriting with Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio’s acoustic/electric tour. The Gordon Stone Band’s current CD release “Even with the Odds” was acclaimed by the Gannett Press as “instrumental album of the year” and the band won “Best Bluegrass
Performer/Artist Award” from Good Citizen’s Vermont Music Poll.

Most recently, between national tours, the band recorded Gordon’s film score for the movie “Mud Season”. The film was an official selection at “Slamdance” and won best picture at both the Pasadena and Silver Strand film festivals.
