Eggy Release Sophomore Album 'Waiting Game' With White Denim's James Petralli

Waiting Game, the sophomore studio album from New Haven, Connecticut rock quartet Eggy, was released on September 6, 2024. The 10-song record was co-produced by James Petralli of White Denim and issued through the band’s own independent imprint, Lazy Egg.

Recording took place at Petralli’s home studio in Pasadena, California. In announcing the record, the band said the sessions came together far faster than the idea behind them.

“This album is something we’ve wanted to make for the past five years, but funny enough, it only took us three weeks to complete,” the band said.

Two singles set up the record

“Laurel” was released as the album’s second preview track when the record was announced. “In A Moment’s Notice” had come out in early May 2024.

Eggy is Alex Bailey (drums, vocals), Jake Brownstein (guitar, vocals), Mike Goodman (bass, vocals) and Dani Battat (keys, vocals). The group is known for improv-focused live shows.

What Petralli brought to the sessions

Petralli, who fronts White Denim, described the sessions in terms of how the four members worked with one another rather than how they played.

“I loved this process with them. They were open and refreshingly communicative with one another,” Petralli said.

The band framed the finished record as a marker of where its members are now.

“This album feels like a step towards maturity, as it sees the acceptance and departure from our 20’s (for most of us),” the band said.

A busy summer ahead of the release

Eggy played a summer festival run before the album arrived, along with a six-show series supporting Umphrey’s McGee.

The record landed two days after Ithaca electro-rock band Jimkata released its own new album, putting two Northeast improv-leaning acts in the same release week.
