The Disco Biscuits released Lake Shore Drive on March 4, 2022, the band’s first original studio recording in over a decade. The track is an instrumental, produced by fellow live-electronic artist Cloudchord.
The band’s previous studio album was 2011’s Otherwise Law Abiding Citizens.
The single is the first in a planned monthly series of releases building toward a new full-length album expected in summer 2022 on the band’s own imprint in partnership with The Orchard.
The song already had a live history
“Lake Shore Drive” debuted on stage on August 20, 2021 at Northlands in Swanzey, New Hampshire. It had been played five times before the studio version appeared.
Guitarist Jon Gutwillig said the band prepped three songs in his basement studio ahead of the sessions.
“We took some techniques and styles from on stage at our live shows and brought them into the studio,” the band said in a statement.
Released into the middle of a spring tour
The single arrived one day after the band opened its spring tour at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. A release celebration is set for that night at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
The spring 2022 itinerary also carries two nights at The National in Richmond, Va. on March 10 and 11, a three-night run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., two nights at Mission Ballroom in Denver and two nights at The Joy Theater in New Orleans during Jazz Fest.
