Sometimes the best part of seeing a band twice in a week is having a recent show to compare it too. Umphrey’s McGee’s jam-packed performance Friday at the Orbit room was a night & day comparison to the show a week previous in Ann
Arbor. With a fantastic jazz-funk-rock opener by the Macpodz, UM hit the stage hard and fast with an almost 9-minute Fussy Dutchman, showing their intentions for the night they had in store. An ETI mid first-set promised “Wait there’s more!” and the first set closes with a fantasic tour-titled Mantis.

Set two opens with Jajunk, quickly into Hangover, then a reggae-inspired FF. Then complete insanity ensues as UM breaks into a “Can’t you hear me knockin” cover and 10-minute Jam. They pause long enough to invite the Macpodz out on the stage for an incredible Rocker (PartII) and end with Cemetery Walk, only to come back out and give us a reprise in Cemetery Walk 2.

Amazing set list and collaboration with MacPodz. Fantastic Can’t You Hear Me Knockin for my UM covers addiction. Lighting was phenomenal, especially the perhaps halloween-inspired purple and greens. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Bayless held up a bra in the second set and shouted, “If you’re gonna throw shit at us, don’t throw stuff like this (holds up glowsticks) throw more stuff like this!”.
