Review: Donna The Buffalo at The Tralf 11.19.2010

The Herd was out in force on friday night as Donna The Buffalo was in town to play the Tralf. The 5 piece band from Ithaca did not disappoint their fans. Led by Jeb (guitar and vocals) and Tara (accordion, wash board, violin, guitar, tamborine and vocals) DTB brought their eclectic musical style to the Tralf for 3 hours of feel good dance music.
The music is easy to like, but difficult to categorize. There is definitely a jam band element to the music, but other genres have their influences. These include, but are not limited to, Cajun, Roots, Rock and Bluegrass. The lyrics of the song are also diverse, ranging from social commentary to spirituality to love and joy.
A number of members of the Herd came from out of town for the show. This was evident by the number people having trouble finding the Tralf. I am not sure just how big the DTB herd is, but a friend says they have a solid following in Boulder.
Local Herd members (JS, JG and MR) felt this was one of the best DTB shows they had ever seen. The Tralf provided an excellent setting for the show with an expanded dance floor that was up close and personal with the band. It got hot and sticky after several hours of dancing, but this was a good thing.
The band is currently on tour in the midwest before heading south in January. For full list of dates & more head over to their website.
