Festival Coverage

Quixotic Fusion @ Electric Forest

Part of our coverage of this year’s Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, Michigan was working with Mike Silberman of A Sustainable Reality: Redefining Roots, a Chicago-based film & production company.  We’re ridiculously excited to share this performance video of Quixotic Fusion, who also performed at this year’s TED conference.

Quixotic is a diverse group of about fifteen Aerialists, Dancers, Musicians, Choreographers, Lighting/Projectionists and Artists who strive to push the boundaries of live performance using interactions between all of their performers while creating a multi-dimensional world that the crowd gets pulled into. This performance at Electric Forest 2012 combined the natural elements of the woods into a flawless ensemble of limitless wonder. Have a look, and enjoy!

Michael Silberman is a twenty-five year old independent documentary film maker who graduated from Columbia College Chicago in the summer of 09′. In August of 2009 he completed a forty-five minute documentary entitled, “In Our Backyard,” which focuses on the damaging effects of Monsanto Chemical Company. Michael took this piece to the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival where it won the title of “Best Environmental Documentary,” and was chosen as a top twenty presidential selection.

Michael’s current production company, A Sustainable Reality, focuses on various urban agriculture, community building, and volunteer efforts across the United States. Their on-going web series can be found at redefiningroots.com

Currently, Michael works as the in house videographer for moto restaurant, a Michelin star restaurant owned and operated by the world-famous chef Homaro Cantu. Examples of this work can be found at motorestaurant.com or their sister restaurant’s site, ingrestaurant.com.

Michael is also very heavily involved in the Chicago Burningman community, and can be found filming many local events, or out roaming the playa. Electric Forest was a brand new experience for him this year, and he is very excited to offer up some incredible footage, the likes of which have never been seen this way before.

Michael’s mission was to truly encapsulate the emotions and energy that go behind a large scale festival like Electric Forest, not merely just for the musical acts, but for all of the artists involved. Michael finds it very important that festival goers not only enjoy some great tunes, but find time to interact with their surroundings, and the people that helped piece it all together. This year served as an unbelievable outlet of inspiration for Michael, and he is very excited to share some of this captivating joy he has brought back from the forest just for you.
