Nietzsche’s – Buffalo, NY
Rochester natives, and roots reggae touring veterans are back at it in 2010 in a big way. After performing hundreds of crowd pleasing shows the past several years the band is back on the road, this time in support of their latest release “Live Up.”
Being my first live, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, experience Iwasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I knew I was in store for some Festival quality Reggae music, but didn’t know much about their visual stimulants. As I approached the stage, I noticed a large projection screen behind the drums along with four LED tube lights, a number of stage lights. I knew we would be good.
People were dancing from the first note to the last. Smiles across many faces, and it continued all the way to the front of the bar. It was hard to deny the infectious grooves supplied by GPGDS that night.
Even with it being the beginning of their tour, they sounded very tight. Improvisational levels were very enjoyable, leading up to a great rest of the tour. Although it was my first show, it definitely won’t be my last!
GPGDS heads out Albany tonight and then Vermont. Check out the bands MySpace for the full list of tour dates.
