The funk rolled through Chicago this past Friday when the New Orleans powerhouse Galactic played the Park West. Galactic’s just starting a massive country wide tour supporting their latest release Carnivale Electricos.

Supporting the band on this tour with vocals is the legendary Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover. This is no novelty act, Glovers vocal chops are as tight as they’ve ever been and his style blends perfectly with Galactic’s funk rock grooves. The stage was set with Mardi Gras decorations and the sold out crowd at the Park west was in the mood for a good ol’ fashioned NOLA party. The set was mostly tracks off the new album, which was fine with me because it’s an amazing mix of dirty funky danceable songs that translate wonderfully to a live setting.

Some highlights from the night were when openers The Soul Rebel Brass Band joined Galactic for an epic jam which featured dueling solos on just about every instrument. Another highlight moment for me was when Glover belted out his classic Living Colour tune “Cult of Personality” Overall, amazing show, if your anywhere remotely close to one of their upcoming gigs this tour, check it out, you won’t regret it!
