Five Must See Shows @ North Coast

Thievery Corporation

BTJ’s Five Must See Shows At North Coast

Thievery Corporation – For DJ’s Rob Garza & Eric Hilton, Thievery Corporation’s live show has ballooned to much more than a DJ show. Sure the two are still poised behind the turntables, but with a massive live band surrounding them and a slew of vocalists to drive different styles their live show show is always varied and entertaining.Where & When: Sunday 10pm Red Bull – Sunday Late Night Show @ The Congress

RJD2 w Break Science – RJD2 looks to find the sweet spot between the energy of a live band and a DJ set, as he will hit North Coast with Break Science. The two have toured together before so this set should be one to check out as the trio should change leads throughout. Where & When:  Saturday 3:30-430 – Groupon Stage

Little Dragon -  The Swedish synth quartet toured last year with Damon Albarn as part of the roughly 40-piece Gorillaz live band. This year, they’ve released their latest Ritual Union and their downtempo dreamy originals spun by singer Yukimi Nagano should not be missed at North Coast. Where & When: Sunday 5:30-6:30 Groupon Stage

Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) – Chances are if you’re here on BTJ, you know about STS9, and now you know about acronyms. The quintet has always proved that they can go against the grain of what their biggest fans want and somehow grow exponentially with new fans. Check out their latest from their EP When The Dust Settles below. Bassist David “Thanksalotchyall” Murphy will also join Up Until Now, who along with Big Gigantic, open up for STS9 at the Congress. Where & When: Friday Late Night @ The Congress – Saturday 830-10 North Coast Stage.

Van Ghost – Chicago hometown favorite Van Ghost thrive on the dynamic between frontman Michael Harrison Berg and frontwoman Jennifer Hartswick. As most in the jam scene already know, Hartswick’s voice is not to be fucked with, she can fill up a room with her trumpet playing too.  Where & When: Sunday 4:30-5:30 Groupon Stage, Saturday Late Night @ Bottom Lounge w/ The New Mastersounds and Wyllys & The New York Hustler Ensemble

And one for good luck…

The Budos Band – This Brooklyn bunch cross afrobeat freaks with metal junkies for a desert drenched Black Sabbath funky ass grind. It takes a lot of effort to have a big band click like this, but the 10-12 piece churns through energetic sets rumbling through layers and  layers of simple dirging sounds. When & Where: Sunday 3:30-4:30 Groupon Stage
