cd-cover1.jpgIn his fifth solo effort since leaving Dispatch, Pete Francis drives an eclectic ride thru 10 tracks on his newly released album Iron Sea & The Cavalry.

Johnny Ocho’s Lullaby opens the album w/ a nice hook & country feel reminiscent of Drive-by Truckers. It then picks up the electric (both guitar & organ) in Armies of Angels & creates a groove of urban bluegrass that carries through to Shooting Star & The Ambulance. Pete Francis beefs up his vocals which mesh w/ the great building rifts by Boo Reiners on steel guitar & electric organ the band creates.

Case of Bad Love, is a laid back tale that doesn’t tell a story but lets you know what happened. It’s backed by a light bluesy, mariachi strum of mandolin and guitar with a simple drum kick that really works for this song. From there, the album winds down with Heavenly Boat, which has some great lyrics that pull you in and an eclectic sound that pushes the song together. Really cool rifts that build into a nice acoustic piece.

Pete Francis is currently on tour in support of this new album and will be playing many festivals this summer including Mountain Jam in upstate NY in June. -jsjmarkley
