After being offline all weekend I woke up this morning to find that the Live Music Archive had received permission from ‘The Dead” to open a section on The Archive to host ALL the Audience recordings from the upcoming tour (and all the past tours billed as The Dead.)
MarcP at splinteredsunlight.com took it upon himself to contact The Dead and get them added to The Archive. Here’s what he had to say…..
TODAY I got permission from ‘The Dead’ to open a section on the Live Music Archive to host ALL the Audience recordings from the upcoming tour (and all the past tours billed as The Dead)
I was a member of the team that pushed all the Grateful Dead up to LMA back in late 2003/early 2004. You can read about it here and I personally managed the project that led to all of Phil and Friends to be hosted.
In November 2005, an “incident” occurred when certain band members (with tight shorts) had a bit a a hissy fit over the depth of the Grateful Dead collection on Archive.org. They demanded it’s removal, and a huge firestorm followed. After the dust settled, the compromise was to allow all the SBD’s to be stream only, while AUD recordings could be downloaded and streamed.
At the point we only had permission for Grateful Dead. We did not want to press our luck for a verdict on The Dead, or The Other Ones at that point in time.
But yesterday I emailed Bret, the admin/owner of Philzone.com to ask him to use his contacts and ask my question.
I got the response tonight…..
” as of April 7, 2009, AUDIENCE recordings of shows billed as “The
Dead”, from 2003 – present are OK for Live Music Archive.
NO SBD, NO Matrix, NO Official Releases (MunckMix CD’s purchased at
shows) NO Sirius/XM Broadcasts, No FM Broadcasts.
Permission does not extend to any members other side projects (beyond
Phil & Friends and Ratdog, that have granted LMA permission
individually). So this does not cover shows billed as “The Other
Ones”, or anything other then shows billed as “The Dead”…..”
This is great news. It’s great to see the surviving members of The Dead supporting The Live Music Archive. To see the bands profile and listen to the Greensborough show from last make the jump.
