On Wednesday July 27th, Artpark in Lewiston New York is hosting the band Slightly Stoopid. Their music is describe as “a fusion of folk, rock, reggae, blues, tinged with hip-hop, funk, metal and punk.” Slightly Stoopid is an American band based out of San Diego, California. As a band, they have released a total of twelve albums including four live, with their eighth studio album entitled Meanwhile…Back at the Lab which was released on June 29, 2015.
The band was formed in 1994 by childhood friends Miles Doughty, Kyle McDonald and included high school friend Adam Bausch on drums. Soon after, Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell discovered the band, asking them to perform in a local Tavern. Shortly there after, Nowell signed them to his label Skunk Records even though the members were still attending high school. In 1996 the band released their first studio album, the punk-tinged Slightly Stoopid just months after Brad Nowell’s death under his Skunk Records label.
The band continued to evole and began to mix even more different musical styles after solidifying a new line-up with the additions of Ryan ‘RyMo’ Moran (drums), Oguer ‘OG’ Ocon (congas, percussion, harp, vocals) from the B Side Players, Karl Denson (saxaphone), Dela (saxophone) from John Brown Body, and Andy Geib (trombone).
Slightly Stoopid has played extensively with a variety of artists such as Sublime, Bob Weir, Dave Mathews Band, the Roots, Snoop Dog, and G Love & Special Sauce. The group has toured frequently since its inception, including appearances at such festivals as Coachella, Harmony, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Additionally, the group has played sold-out shows around the world including Ausralia, Japan, Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands and even the Dominican Republic.
