Rubblebucket | Brooklyn Bowl | 8.19.11
Words by Frankie Coda NEW YORK, NY – With shows like the one they put on at The Brooklyn Bowl this last Friday, it’s no big surprise why Rubblebucket is on the rise, making a ruckus across the country. It’s like The Talking Heads and Fela Kuti had a love child. They just might be the most sonically captivating and uniquely entertaining groups touring right now. Rubblebucket kicked the show off with “Breatherz†and did not look back. Coming off their second studio release, Omega La La, the group had a fine mix of the older and new catalog. “Came Out of A Lady†had the venue erupt into harmonious chaos. From start to finish, …

Sharing in the Groove with Phish at Bethel Woods This past Memorial Day weekend, the folks that host the Equifunk Festival each August opened their gates to the Bethel Woods Phish crowd. Equifunk Express was an all-inclusive and very intimate  tent and cabin camping festival held in Equinunk PA, just 25 miles from Bethel. The lineup was absolutelely stellar, and even served as its own entity as a festival for those not inclined to seeing Phish. The Event was Sold Out, but they are hosting Equifunk in August with The New Deal headlining 2 nights. Lineup: Friday- The Big Dirty (afternoon) Kung Fu (latenight) Saturday- Zongo Junction (afternoon) Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (afternoon) Marco Denevento (latenight) Sunday- Wolf! (afternoon) Bustle in your…

Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival 2011 Lineup
The Grassroots Festival Lineup has been announced and we’re looking at another great festival with some of the best world music to ever land in upstate NY. Host & headliners of the festival Donna The Buffalo are returning to the Trumansburgh Fairgrounds for the 21st anniversary of the festival. We’re excited for NYC based afro rockers Balkan Beat Box from New York City. The internationally touring band is known for their high energy live performances at festivals such as Bonaroo and Paleo. “Their name, their personal history and the enthusiastic media & audience reactions suggest a link with the so-called Gypsy Rock movement, but their scope is reaching way beyond that: Balkan Beat Box really transcend…

Jimkata | Grassroots Festival | 7.22.2010
This past summer we had a chance to see these Ithaca progressive/electro rock jammers twice. Once at The Great Blue Heron Music Festival and then again at the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival a few weeks later. Prior to The Blue Heron Festival we had never heard of these guys and were pleasantly surprised by their unique sound. The band is taper friendly and has quite a few great recordings on The Live Music Archive. Listen to “Hot Joint” from Grassroots Festival 2010 Jimkata has been touring since 2007 and are about to release a new EP Ghosts and Killers which will be officially released on September 9, 2010 for FREE on the bands website. Jimkata…
Interview: Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad
Interview by Tyler Curtis Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, a band out of Rochester NY, is making a huge impression on the reggae scene. The band has gone from as many as 7 musicians, to now a 4 piece reggae dub powerhouse, providing you that downright kinky reggae, to that full dub sound. While they may not be considered a “jam†band, they present their audiences with a top-of-the-line good time, and music to match the concert experience. You can catch them at music festivals like Nateva this summer, and they are most likely coming to an area near you on their never ending tour. Interview with bassist James Searl TC: First let me start off…

Foot Ganja Plant’s theme song “Walky Walk Tall”, some new tracks, as well as some JBB favorites. One of my favorite tracks in this set is a remake of the Johnny Cash song “I Guess Things Happen…
