Gov’t Mule Rocks The Harbor 08.02.2009 Buffalo NY
Last year we witnessed the band play Art Park in nearby Lewiston NY at probably the best venue in WNY. Gov’t Mule made the trek up river this year and played the best rock/blues in the country for the Buffalo faithful. This year the Erie Harbor Basin was the party spot for the rock legends massive following. The crowd here was the biggest we’ve seen at the waterfront with Warren attracting the old timers, bikers, and the festival kids as well. Warren opened the set with John The Revolver and had those who brought chairs on their feet by the time he got into the 2nd song Banks On The Deep End. Warren opened the…
The Avett Brothers Live | Buffalo NY 07.30.2009
Thursday At The Square closed out the season with it’s best show of the summer. The Avett Brothers played 90 minutes of intense folk rock on a warm humid night in downtown Buffalo. The Avett Brothers, from North Carolina are in the middle of a nationwide tour playing some new songs off their yet to be released Album “I And Love And You” which will be in stores on September 29. We’ve watched the band grow over the past few years. They have come out of basic obscurity to become the poster boys for the new grungegrass/folk rock rage that is sweeping across the nation. Hill Country Revue @ Lafayette Square Buffalo, NY 07.09.09 MP3 + Photos
Hill Country Revue played a great show in Buffalo last night! For the first time all year it didn’t rain at the free concert series downtown in the Queen City. We had a blast catching up with old friends and listening to the best blues in the country. Cody Dickenson was awesome on the guitar and simply phenomenal on the electric psychedelic wash board. The rest of the band was tight and played a high energy show before a big crowd. You Can Make It: [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Click image below for full slide show! JJ Grey & Mofro Live @ Lafayette Square – Thursday At The Square Buffalo, NY
JJ Grey & Mofro opened for Jimmy Vaughn and played an excellent set. The band sounded great and and the crowd turned out early to support these blues greats. These guys hail from Jacksonville, Florida and have been impressing fans across the nation at many of the major festivals. Grey first coined his blend of rhythm and blues, soul and funky rock and roll as “Mofro Magic” in 1997, based on the continuous southern slang being thrown around at a lumberyard in Jacksonville, Florida (JJ’s hometown) where he worked. According to his bio on the band’s website, Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern storytellers, and his songs often use the loss of his…
Jakob Dylan Takes The Torch Live @ Thursday At The Square – Buffalo, NY 07.03.2008
I’m going to keep this brief as I’m about to run out the door for the Blue Heron Festival but I wanted to get this up before I left as I’ll be coming back with a bunch more music to post and I don’t want to get behind. Bottom line. Great show. Jakob Dylan has captured everything that is good about folk music. The crowd absolutely loved him. My dad grew up listening to Bob Dylan and it was surreal to see his son a generation later playing some incredible folk music for this Buffalo crowd. Three-peat for YMSB | Lafayette Square Buffalo 06.08 | *SBD* MP3
Last year they predicted it, this year they delivered. YMSB became only the third band in the 22 year history of Thursday At The Square to do “an evening with” at Buffalo’s best outdoor venue. After playing the past two years in torrential downpours the sun finally shined for their 3rd appearance. YMSB put on an excellent show playing two sets for a total of over 2 and half hours of intense newgrass. This is a must have set for any YMSB or newgrass/jamband fans. Jeff Austin and the rest of the guys love playing for this crowd in Buffalo. For those of you who have been to a show at Thursday At The Square…
Disco Biscuits Throw Down @ Thursday At The Square 06.05.08
Last night was sick. It was my 2nd time seeing Bisco and this is one of the best shows we’ve covered at The Square in downtown Buffalo. We got down there early and the guys from Philly opened at 6:30 with Kitchen Mittens. They moved through some of their originals including a sick Jigsaw Earth jam. When they broke into a ruckus cover of Rage Against The Machines ‘Killing In The Name Of’ the Buffalo heads started moshing and jumping all over the place in pure elation. The 2nd set opened with ‘Run Like Hell’ and closed with wicked cover of Nirvana’s Lithium just as the torrential downpour doused the bisco fans. Adam has seeded…
