Looking Back: Summer Camp 2012
Words & Videos by Jay Kopelman, HearSeeFeel ProductionsPhotos by Jake Plimack, Jake Plimack Photography For the last 12 years moe. and Umphrey’s McGee have hosted Summer Camp Music Festival, which many of us use to launch into the beautiful summer months. Everyone is treated to a wide variety of unique performances by some of our favorite musicians. Last year the rain wreaked havoc on entry times, performances, and just about everything else. While everyone well prepared this year for the rain; we were very fortunate to have almost none. The aggressive winds kept us cool throughout the day even with temperatures getting into the 90′s. The efforts of the Summer Camp volunteers and Green team…

Gallery: Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa at Summer Camp 2010
I hadn’t seen ZPZ since Rothbury, and I think they’ve been taking vitamins. This show gave me goosebumps, and not just for the helicopter-ing, horns, and stage presence. These guys know how to perform and put on what I thought was a SCAMP2010 top-10.

Just as good in the daytime.
Summer Camp: Keller Williams
Keller’s just so damn cute you want to take him home and make him a peanut butter sammich, watch cartoons and chill. Would have loved to see the new “Keller & the Keels” but alas this was a solo performance. One of the biggest issues I had with Summer Camp is that Keller supposedly “gave away his shoes”. This is an issue because every time I’ve seen the guy (even in northern michigan in the 40′s) he doesn’t wear shoes. Keep it casual, Keller. Great show, happy dancing music on a late afternoon / early evening set.
Summer Camp: ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra)
With a name like Animal Liberation Orchestra you know these are some crazy cats. Zach Gill (Keyboards, Vocals) went to High School with Jack Johnson, who helped produce the band’s first album. They put on a great show at Summer Camp, and I loved the slide guitar.
The Macpodz at Summer Camp 2010
The Macpodz are a tried and tested band from Ann Arbor Michigan that bring a lot to the table for a jam band. And they don’t have a guitar player, either. Brennan explained in an exclusive interview with BTJ that this puts them in a great position to be able to jam with some of the best guitar players around. This time it was Jake Cinninger from Umphrey’s Mcgee joining them on stage to jam. Video from the interview posted soon. The heat was sweltering – the barricades too hot to touch. These guys drew a moderate crowd of people who all seemed to completely love their unique blend. We’re sure to see more collaboration, touring…
