The Hue hailing from Chicago Illinois is expecting great things in 2009. As their blistering sound continues to evolve, the band constantly finds new ways to create action-packed songs that tell a story, even without lyrics. From tight progressive rock tunes and wild dance-till-you-drop numbers to expressive and melodious jazz pieces, a fiery dose of dueling guitars mix with the on-point rhythm section attack to reach explosive peaks. The band sites influences from Yes, Phish, Umphrey’s McGee,to the Grateful Dead, and Led Zeppelin. To follow up their debut EP, Unscene, The Hue will release their first full-length album, Beyond Words, later this year.
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals closed out their winter tour with a excellent show at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. I have seen them open a couple of times for Gov’t Mule, it was great to see them as a headlining act. The Vermont based band recently released This Is Somewhere their 4th and best sounding album to date. The 25 year old Grace Potter has really come into her own and is currently one of the Jam Band scenes sexiest and brightest stars. Many thanks to Seth Nochajski for this excellent audience recording. A few weeks after featuring them here on bandsthatjam.net they were nominated for a Jammy for “Best New Artist.” On Wednesday the boys threw down a sick set at Nieztches in Buffalo. This venue has a reputation for having great bands 7 nights a week in the heart of the Allentown district in downtown Buffalo. Back in the 90′s many bands that were getting started like Gov’t Mule, YMSB, and Donna The Buffalo played to small crowds in their early years at this great venue….
