On The Rise: The HUE *SBD* MP3

The Hue

The Hue hailing from Chicago Illinois is expecting great things in 2009. As their blistering sound continues to evolve, the band constantly finds new ways to create action-packed songs that tell a story, even without lyrics. From tight progressive rock tunes and wild dance-till-you-drop numbers to expressive and melodious jazz pieces, a fiery dose of dueling guitars mix with the on-point rhythm section attack to reach explosive peaks. The band sites influences from Yes, Phish, Umphrey’s McGee,to the Grateful Dead, and Led Zeppelin. To follow up their debut EP, Unscene, The Hue will release their first full-length album, Beyond Words, later this year. The album, which features keyboard virtuoso Eric Levy (Garaj Mahal) on one…

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Live @ Town Ballroom 12.15.2008

potters2

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals closed out their winter tour with a excellent show at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. I have seen them open a couple of times for Gov’t Mule, it was great to see them as a headlining act. The Vermont based band recently released This Is Somewhere their 4th and best sounding album to date. The 25 year old Grace Potter has really come into her own and is currently one of the Jam Band scenes sexiest and brightest stars. Many thanks to Seth Nochajski for this excellent audience recording. Review: The Brew @ Nieztches 04.30.08 | SBD MP3 FLAC PICS

brew2.jpg

Last month we cruised The Archive and discovered The Brew a band that jams from Boston. A few weeks after featuring them here on bandsthatjam.net they were nominated for a Jammy for “Best New Artist.” On Wednesday the boys threw down a sick set at Nieztches in Buffalo. This venue has a reputation for having great bands 7 nights a week in the heart of the Allentown district in downtown Buffalo. Back in the 90′s many bands that were getting started like Gov’t Mule, YMSB, and Donna The Buffalo played to small crowds in their early years at this great venue…. The band was founded in 2002 when long time friends Dave Drouin (guitars/vocals) and…

Review: Umphrey’s Live @ Town Ballroom 04.09.08 MP3 & PICS

img_0844.jpg

The boys from Chicago put on a killer show on Wednesday for the Umphreak’s of Buffalo. The first set is simply amazing and will quickly become one of their most downloaded shows. I wouldn’t be surprised if some or all of the material eventually made it onto an official live release. They came on at roughly 9:30 to a raucous crowd who had been chanting for a the better part of half an hour for the band to take the stage. The crowd consisted of the usual buffalo heads, some teenagers, and even some gray haired fans that know that even though it’s not the 60′s Umphrey’s will impress every time out.The set opens with a…

The Brew Live @ Club Metronome on 02.23.2008 SBD

This quartet hails from Massachusetts North Shore. From the bands website “The Brew appeals to rock, funk, jam, jazz, reggae, and pop enthusiasts alike, and it has been said that their music summons the spirits of artists such as Peter Gabriel, YES, The Police, and contemporaries like Percy Hill. After cutting their first studio album in 2003, The Brew have since release two more, including their 2006 release, The Key, as well as a DVD documenting their performance at The Harvest Fest in Maine.” Check out this high quality sound board recording of these guys jamming out in VT early this week. Keller Williams | 08.09.07 | Buffalo

I missed the show this week at Lafayette Square as I was camping at Allegheny State Park for the week. I had planned on coming back on Thursday but I was having too much fun in the wilderness to make it back to town midweek. After listening to the show I’m kicking myself for not making it. I’m sure the hippies of Buffalo were glad to hear a few Greatful Dead jams including the encore “Women Are Smarter.” KW is one of a kind musician who has played jam festival Bonnaroo and Red Rocks. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to KW yet I’d highly recommend downloading this high quality set. The show…

Thursday In The Square in Buffalo continued its best ever jam band lineup last night with “An Evening With moe.” moe. came on at 5:30 to delight of thousands of fans for a homecoming show. This Buffalo based band was glad to be home in the city were they started in 1990. 17 years later they have established them selves as one the touring jam bands bands on the scene. Both sets were awesome and you could see moe. feeding off the energy of the crowd and truly glad to be playing on the home turf. There was a short downpour during Nebreska and the whole crowd went crazy. If you haven’t been to a…
