Gallery & Review: Lotus, Conspirator, Emancipator @ The Congress Theater

Lotus 2.17.2012

Words and Photos by Emily Stout (Chicago, IL) It was a joyous day, way back before Thanksgiving, when it was announced to the world that a trifecta of talent was to converge on one special night in the heart of the Midwest. Happy dances were performed, friends were called, and travel plans were secured. A comfortably welcoming yet energized melting pot such as Chicago would play the ideal host; a place where one can combine synthesizers, violins, guitars, and laptops, and attract a crowd with appreciation and excitement for each. And so it was written.. Lotus, Conspirator, and Emancipator were to take the Congress Theater by storm on February 17, 2012. Each leg of the…

Gallery & Review: Lotus @ The Intersection

Lotus at The Intersection, Grand Rapids, MI 2/15

Words and Photos by Emily Stout   (Grand Rapids, Michigan) On just the second night of their month-long winter tour, Lotus headed for the west side of the great Mitten state. They filled the modern warehouse-style venue, The Intersection, with hoards of fans eager to see what the group had in store for them this time. The evening opened with a showcase of Beard-o-Bees, Jesse Miller‘s solo electronica act. As one of the main songwriters for Lotus (with brother Luke Miller), it was nice to hear an even wider display of his many musical talents. The short break that followed was the only downtime of the entire evening – when the full band took the…

The lineup again showcased up and coming Chicago artists like Van Ghost, Future Rock, Orchard Lounge, Midnight Conspiracy and Mario Florek alongside…

Lotus

Buffalo continues to have one of it’s best fall lineups in years. Just over the past few weeks we’ve seen, moe., Mike Gordon, STS9, and now the electronic, progressive, instrumental sensation Lotus at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. Golden Ghost: Lotus laid down the funk with sexy improvisational grooves that kept heads bouncing and feet moving all night. This was Lotus’s first time playing at the larger Town Ballroom a sign that the band is on the rise as it continues to break in new fans and keep the old ones coming back. Lotus’s music spans so many genres it’s hard to peg them as simply a rock band or a jam band. Their…
