IndigoSun: “Behind Closed Eyes”
(Article syndicated from GaianEye.com) IndigoSun is a 4 piece jazz-funk-tronica 4 piece band out of Chicago comprised of Kyle Liss (Keys/Synth/Laptop), Lucas Ellman (Tenor Sax/Electronic Sax/Effects), Steve Florian (Drums), and Mike Cantella (Bass). They are in the midst of blasting off with their newest studio album – “Behind Closed Eyes” – which features Mike Rempel of Lotus on two tracks. The band has opened for Big Gigantic, Rubblebucket, Eliot Lipp, The Malah, Alex B, Family Groove Co and many others. They have performed at tons of venues and festivals throughout the region. One of my personal favorites being their renegade set in the woods at Summer Camp Music Festival. It was a great honor to…
The New Deal | Terminal 5 | 5.11.2011
photos by : Nick Irving NEW YORK, NY -Â Playing one last show to a raucous New York City crowd as they wind down their final year as a band, The New Deal left a stain on the walls of Terminal 5. Closing out the night after bouncy, psychedelic, dub-tastic sets by both Sub Swara and Ott, the electrifying trio from Canada cleaned up with a solid two hour dance party. I have seen The New Deal about five or six times now, and this was one of the better shows I have seen them play, if not the best. The whole show from start to finish was both consistent and on point. The band was…

Lotus | Buffalo | 10.30.09
Buffalo continues to have one of it’s best fall lineups in years. Just over the past few weeks we’ve seen, moe., Mike Gordon, STS9, and now the electronic, progressive, instrumental sensation Lotus at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. Golden Ghost: Lotus laid down the funk with sexy improvisational grooves that kept heads bouncing and feet moving all night. This was Lotus’s first time playing at the larger Town Ballroom a sign that the band is on the rise as it continues to break in new fans and keep the old ones coming back. Lotus’s music spans so many genres it’s hard to peg them as simply a rock band or a jam band. Their…
The Motet FREE Album Download “Dig Deep”
With its 6th release, Dig Deep, The Motet once again proves that it is a group committed to exploring and pushing the sonic envelope, while still remaining dedicated to the musical traditions that have defined their sound. A heavy-horned afrobeat influence countered with a textural blanket of electronica, this album showcases the talents and strengths of the cast of characters that drummer and producer Dave Watts has assembled. New Old: Keyboardist Joey Porter lays down the funk under the coursing melodies of saxophonist Dominic Lalli in pure Motet fashion, with the ever-driving beats of Watts’ masterful rhythmic production pushing the music through sonic peaks and valleys that tantalize and invigorate listeners. If you’ve loved The…

Disco Biscuits Throw Down @ Thursday At The Square 06.05.08
Last night was sick. It was my 2nd time seeing Bisco and this is one of the best shows we’ve covered at The Square in downtown Buffalo. We got down there early and the guys from Philly opened at 6:30 with Kitchen Mittens. They moved through some of their originals including a sick Jigsaw Earth jam. When they broke into a ruckus cover of Rage Against The Machines ‘Killing In The Name Of’ the Buffalo heads started moshing and jumping all over the place in pure elation. The 2nd set opened with ‘Run Like Hell’ and closed with wicked cover of Nirvana’s Lithium just as the torrential downpour doused the bisco fans. Adam has seeded…
