Disco Biscuits | Town Ballroom | 3.17.2010

Bisco

Here’s a nice little St. Patty’s Day Bisco collage by our favorite photographer Tammy Wetzel. If you didn’t catch the Disco Biscuits in Buffalo this past week you have no idea what a sick show you missed! From the first note to the last they were rockin’ it. It was described as  ”A full blown dance party from start to finish, people were going nuts!” Brownie showed his appreciation by calling Buffalo their home away from home. We strongly suggest you listen to this show and check out the bands newest release “Planet Anthem.” enjoy! Review & Photos: Umphrey’s McGee | 3.4.2010 | Buffalo

Screen shot 2010-03-11 at 9.47.51 PM

Umphrey’s McGee continued a white-hot East Coast run Thursday night at the Town Ballroom, a spot that’s become a regular stop for this prog-rock machine. They brought an opening act with them this time, Uglysuit, a 6 piece that brought some solid energy to the stage with Joel from UM joining on keys for a couple. UM took the stage with Kris Myers getting the crowd riled up, sporting a Myers Sabres jersey and inducing USA! USA! chants from the rowdy sold-out crowd. Joel let the fans know their patriotic cheers would get a worthy song, which turned out to be the instrumental Glory after a Jazz Odyssey opened the set. Buffalo fans were treated…

Andrew Bird Live at Asbury Hall at Babeville on 10.21.2009

Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird is in the middle of a Church tour across the US that sees him playing some great venue’s including the famed Asbury Hall at Babeville in Buffalo, NY. Many thanks to the guys at the Calcutta Blog for the reviews and photos.   Photos & Review by Michael James Murray:   An Andrew Bird concert is like a magical experience. You don’t necessarily understand how the act is being performed but the awe and surprise of it all leaves you speechless and applauding for more.   I was fortunate enough to witness an enchanting experience like this last night in the beautiful church of Ani DiFranco at Asbury Hall in Buffalo, Ny. Lotus | Buffalo | 10.30.09

Lotus

Buffalo continues to have one of it’s best fall lineups in years. Just over the past few weeks we’ve seen, moe., Mike Gordon, STS9, and now the electronic, progressive, instrumental sensation Lotus at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. Golden Ghost: [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Lotus laid down the funk with sexy improvisational grooves that kept heads bouncing and feet moving all night. This was Lotus’s first time playing at the larger Town Ballroom a sign that the band is on the rise as it continues to break in new fans and keep the old ones coming back. Lotus’s music spans so many genres it’s hard to peg them as simply a…

U-Melt10309-2954

U-Melt took to Nietzsche’s stage around 11PM, playing until the wee hours and allowing for some of those attending Mike Gordon’s show earlier to make their way for a very full night of jamming at its best. Even Mikeand his band members were seen taking in the “organic progressive groove” that U-Melt was laying down. These guys are in their 6th year together and have developed an incredibly focused sound, transitioning genres with a smooth loose feel that never feels forced. They’ll be ruling the late-night again in Albany this Halloween post-moe., and their next stop in WNY puts them in Rochester this November on Saturday the 13th. If you missed the face melting in…

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad | 04.09.09 | MP3 *SBD*

G.P.G.D.S is defining east coast reggae every night out with its intense dubs, melodic guitar play, and amazing improv. The band finally had a chance to play the “Pirate Ship” aka Nietzsche’s in Buffalo, NY and raised the roof with two sets of intense original reggae. The bands music can be described as lively, roots reggae, with soul, and a psychedelic appeal. After playing a few shows in the suburbs it was great to see the band play before a heady crowd in downtown Buffalo. The band from Rochester is fresh off an east coast tour with west coast reggae sensations Rebelution that saw them playing from NY to Florida. 2009 is already looking like…

Review | U-Melt Live @ Nietzsche’s | 04.03.09

3419210365_b2171d1d65

Friday night at Nietzsche’s in Buffalo. This was the bar that was my go-to back in college, where I first saw moe. and so many other great jambands back in the 90s. With the jamband scene peaking back then, it wasn’t uncommon to be shoulder to shoulder while getting down till 4AM on the weekends. As the local scene waned a bit, and the frequency of my favorite music coming to Nietzsche’s declined, the likelihood of a full house and me being there became a rarity. So I was pumped not only at the chance to see U-Melt at this historic bar again (they threw a sick show last Nov 1st), but to see so…
