Photos: Papadosio, live at the Loft in Lansing, Michigan

The most I had heard of Papadosio was during my sprint past the Campfire stage at last weekend’s Summer Camp Festival. I’m thrilled to have fixed that situation last night, when they came to Lansing and threw down at the Loft. After an inspiring opening set by the Macpodz, I found myself in for a treat.

I truly feel that these types of musicians are the future of music. No longer content to play one instrument, these musicians drop into and out of percussion roles, guitar playing, keyboards, and vocals, weaving a dance of improvisational and downright provoking music. I found myself hanging on each note, wondering where they’d take each fantastical voyage.

From psychadelic ambient to funk to club to segments approaching trance and trip-hop these guys kept the crowd jumping, bumping, and peppered for the entire night. Alas my body gave out and I couldn’t stay until the end – hope to catch them tonight in KZoo and/or Friday in Ferndale at the Magic Bag.

I’d recommend a Papadosio show for anyone interested in seeing a new incarnation of a touring band. Stop by their web site, www.Papadosio.com to download a free EP, “By the Light of the Stars” with some song’s I’ll come right out and say don’t do justice to seeing them live.
