Phish returns to the stage this June for an extensive two-leg Summer Tour, kicking off June 11th in Chicago and wrapping with a two-night stand at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY in August. Stops along the way include a return to SPAC, Hartford, Merriweather, and Alpine Valley. Lots of love for NY with 5 dates but not much for out west. We’re dissapointed that the guys will be skipping Darien Lake in 2010 but really looking forward to the CMAC show in Canandaigua, NY. The first-leg of the tour ends with a Fourth of July performance just outside of Atlanta, GA. After a short break, the band will pick the tour back up on the…

nietzsches_17

Photos & review by Buffalo native and new BTJ contributer Matthew Buckley. Nietzsche’s – Buffalo, NY Rochester natives, and roots reggae touring veterans are back at it in 2010 in a big way. After performing hundreds of crowd pleasing shows the past several years the band is back on the road, this time in support of their latest release “Live Up.” Being my first live, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, experience Iwasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I knew I was in store for some Festival quality Reggae music, but didn’t know much about their visual stimulants. As I approached the stage, I noticed a large projection screen behind the drums along with four LED…

New Album: Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad “Live UP”

GiantPandaGDS_LiveUp_400

One of our favorite bands G.P.G.D.S. has just released their 2nd album. This “best of” live album from select shows in 2008 and 2009 features original songs that fans from Maine to California have grown to love over the years. The production on this album which blends soundboard and audience recordings gives an intense live sound that brings the feel of a night out with Giant Panda to your headphones. Rarely will you find a band with such a unique  roots reggae sound. The band has the ability to channel the essences and improv of the Grateful Dead and seamlessly blend it with dub and roots reggae the likes of which haven’t been seen since the 70′s….
