Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad | 04.09.09 | MP3 *SBD*

G.P.G.D.S is defining east coast reggae every night out with its intense dubs, melodic guitar play, and amazing improv. The band finally had a chance to play the “Pirate Ship” aka Nietzsche’s in Buffalo, NY and raised the roof with two sets of intense original reggae. The bands music can be described as lively, roots reggae, with soul, and a psychedelic appeal. After playing a few shows in the suburbs it was great to see the band play before a heady crowd in downtown Buffalo. The band from Rochester is fresh off an east coast tour with west coast reggae sensations Rebelution that saw them playing from NY to Florida. 2009 is already looking like…

Toubab Krewe Live at Jammin’ Java on 01.20.09 | MP3

Big ups to “su6oxone” and Toubab Krewe for one of the best sounding audience recordings we’ve heard on The Archive. Toubab Krewe blends American Rock with West African music for one of the most unique sounds we’ve heard. The childhood friends from Asheville, NC have developed their sound in travels to Mali, Guinea, and Ivory Coast, where the immersed themselves in the local cultures and played with local musicians. Umphrey’s McGee | 4.1.09 | Buffalo NY | MP3

The Town Ballroom was sold out for the first time for Umphrey’s Mcgee – the masters of improvisational progressive rock. The natives of Chicago and veterans of nationwide festival tours are selling out box offices across the US after the release of their recent album Mantis. The energy level was the highest we’d seen at a show at the Town Ballroom. We cover a lot and from the moment our friends were getting turned away at the box office we knew a rager was brewing. The show was the last of Umphrey’s 5 night iClips event. Camera’s were setup strategically across the ballroom and people were getting to their spots early. The show was flat…

img_2488

Slightly Stoopid made a stop in Buffalo this past Sunday and gave their fans a show to remember. Even though it was a Sunday night you couldn’t tell from the screaming throngs of fans that packed the venue. The band describes their music as “a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk.” You can expect all of that and more at a Slightly Stoopid show. The band puts on a high energy performance seamlessly changing up from intense reggae beats, high energy punk, to soulful hip hop. To grab the lossless files head over to The Archive. Review: The Brew @ Nieztches 04.30.08 | SBD MP3 FLAC PICS

brew2.jpg

Last month we cruised The Archive and discovered The Brew a band that jams from Boston. A few weeks after featuring them here on bandsthatjam.net they were nominated for a Jammy for “Best New Artist.” On Wednesday the boys threw down a sick set at Nieztches in Buffalo. This venue has a reputation for having great bands 7 nights a week in the heart of the Allentown district in downtown Buffalo. Back in the 90′s many bands that were getting started like Gov’t Mule, YMSB, and Donna The Buffalo played to small crowds in their early years at this great venue…. The band was founded in 2002 when long time friends Dave Drouin (guitars/vocals) and…

Phil Lesh & Friends @ Shea’s Performing Arts MP3′s & PICS 10.18.07

Last week I claimed that Gov’t Mule was the show currently on tour and after last night mind blowing experiencing at Shea’s in Buffalo, I stand corrected this lineup of Phil Lesh & Friends has their sound dialed. I saw Phil & Friends at Mountain Jam this year and while that was a great show I didn’t think that Phil sounded all that great. Last night Phil made a believer out of me. I’ll be sure to check out any show of his anytime I have the chance. The crowd at Shea’s was great. Security was fairly lax and let people stand in the aisle. During the 2nd set the place was jam packed. As…

Gov’t Mule @ UB | Torrent Pics 10.10.07

Gov’t Mule jammed on Monday night in Buffalo. It was a cool rainy night but we didn’t mind making the trip up to UB Performing Arts Center for one of the best bands currently on tour. Grace Potter & The Nocturnals opened the evening with a great set. When Gov’t Mule hit the stage they were dead on at this great sounding venue. Unring The Bell in the second set was the highlight of the show with Warren going nuts on the improv. Many thanks to Chris for uploading a great audience recording of this show. To grab the FLAC files for this show check out the torrent at etree.org A few tracks are available…

Keller Williams | 08.09.07 | Buffalo

I missed the show this week at Lafayette Square as I was camping at Allegheny State Park for the week. I had planned on coming back on Thursday but I was having too much fun in the wilderness to make it back to town midweek. After listening to the show I’m kicking myself for not making it. I’m sure the hippies of Buffalo were glad to hear a few Greatful Dead jams including the encore “Women Are Smarter.” KW is one of a kind musician who has played jam festival Bonnaroo and Red Rocks. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to KW yet I’d highly recommend downloading this high quality set. The show…
