Port Chester NY- – Better late than never, some problems on our side prevented these from going live at the time… My Morning Jacket did a 3 night run at The Capitol Theater before closing out 2012 at the Agganis Arena Boston. Joe Madonna was in the photo pit on night 2 to capture the action, take a look at his gallery below. Umphrey’s McGee Fall Tour Opener @ The Capitol Theatre

The Capitol

PORT CHESTER, NY- Last Wednesday,  road warriors Umphrey’s McGee opened their fall tour at the recently reopened and refurbished Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY. The Legendary Westchester County NY venue is a short train or car ride from New York City,  with unusually easy access for anybody in the northern suburbs- it couldn’t be in a better spot. Location, venue history, and one of newest and highest caliber light rigs in the land made for a highly anticipated event. Umphrey’s McGee and Jeff Waful’s lighting expertise made the small theater seem like MSG, or exactly as owner and visionary Pete Shapiro wanted it to look- “a psychedelic rock palace” (NY Times). A missing element was the typical small venue, pre-show parking…

Review: North Coast Music Festival 2012

Rad Photo

Three weeks after the Windy City’s final festival hoorah and we’ve still got North Coast Music Festival on our minds. Check out Erica Treais’s review of the festival and Rad Photos awesome photo gallery below. Hundreds of young raving teens showed up at Union Park to test out their dance moves at the three-day, Labor Day weekend party. The festivals primary musical focus was electronic dance music, though there were quiet a few brass, jam and rock bands in the line-up. We all seemed to luck out with three days of sunshine and nothing more then a bit of drizzle, unlike last years weekend of downpour. Papadosio, a group that spent a hefty amount of…

Review: Catskill Chill 2012

untitled-6056

Words:Tom Clancey Photos: Sincere Shane Weber & Nick Irving (Hancock) Camp Minglewood, N.Y. – It’s Half-way through Catskill Chill, on a cool, overcast Saturday afternoon at psychedelic summer camp – and the voice of reason is telling you to stay calm. “We’re going to have to shut this thing down,” said a peaceful man, who is “strongly urging” you NOT to go back to your tent. “We’re expecting 60 mile-per-hour winds…” And while that wild weather wreaked havoc throughout the region, it never really materialized here at this sweeping performing arts camp wrapped around a beautiful lake. Instead the sold-out crowd endured a brief one-hour rain storm, and delighted in a weekend’s worth of stellar live…

A Big Gigantic Forest Finale

DJ Griz rushed the stage for Big Gigantic's grand finale at Sherwood Court.

Campgrounds have been torn down, traces of life have been left scattered across the field at Double JJ Ranch, the sun will set on a place where only a day before, over 20,000 spirits resided. The magic of the forest has unfortunately come to at end and with that end comes lasting memories of a weekend filled with music, expression, dance and livelihood. Driving home by myself this morning with heavy eyes and a strong desire for a shower, I had a lot of time to look back at what I had just experienced. The crowd and their unspoken dedication to SCI and the rest of the artists performing, the artists in Sherwood Forest and…

A Stroll Through The Electric Forest Festival

e.Tree Photography

ROTHBURY, MI – Steven, a Detroit-based photographer, looked over and asked me if I was about to cry. I wasn’t really sure what was going on, I was happy and curious, wanting to explore and touch every new thing I came across. For the first time in awhile I truly felt at peace with myself and my surroundings. I was back in the forest. Day one at the Electric Forest Festival has already begun to stir up a lot of emotions. The entire check in process – driving back and forth from north gate, recovering my press pass, waiting to get in the main gates and sprinting after my car – took double the time…
