Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival 2011 Lineup
The Grassroots Festival Lineup has been announced and we’re looking at another great festival with some of the best world music to ever land in upstate NY. Host & headliners of the festival Donna The Buffalo are returning to the Trumansburgh Fairgrounds for the 21st anniversary of the festival. We’re excited for NYC based afro rockers Balkan Beat Box from New York City. The internationally touring band is known for their high energy live performances at festivals such as Bonaroo and Paleo. “Their name, their personal history and the enthusiastic media & audience reactions suggest a link with the so-called Gypsy Rock movement, but their scope is reaching way beyond that: Balkan Beat Box really transcend…
Jimkata | Grassroots Festival | 7.22.2010
[Audio clip: view full post to listen] This past summer we had a chance to see these Ithaca progressive/electro rock jammers twice. Once at The Great Blue Heron Music Festival and then again at the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival a few weeks later. Prior to The Blue Heron Festival we had never heard of these guys and were pleasantly surprised by their unique sound. The band is taper friendly and has quite a few great recordings on The Live Music Archive. Listen to “Hot Joint” from Grassroots Festival 2010 [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Jimkata has been touring since 2007 and are about to release a new EP Ghosts and Killers which will…

The festival is presented over a four day period (Thursday-Sunday) on four stages which run ridiculously long hours to accommodate the 60 some bands that play the festival. The band selection reflects the eclectic tastes of our ‘amorphous committee’,…
Spearhead Live @ Grassroots Festival 07.21.2008 SBD MP3
I was at this show with about 10 friends in the summer of 2006. I had camped out two days on the side of the road to get a good spot and it was well worth it! The Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival is one of the best festivals in the nation. It has an extremely diverse lineup and one of the best vibes you can get at a festival. Nestled in the Fingerlakes region of Upstate NY it draws 15,000 fans each year and has donated tens of thousands of dollars to fighting AIDS since it’s inception in 1990. The festival is hosted by Donna The Buffalo. This set featured Spearhead performing at the infield stage…

Grassroots in Trumansburgh, NY is one of my favorite festivals of the year. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the lineup announcement since purchasing our 4 day festival and camping passes a couple of months ago. The festival will be headlined by Donna The Buffalo, Lucinda Williams, & Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Other performers include reggae pioneers John Brown’s Body who perform to massive crowds in their home town. I’m also looking forward to see The Hackensaw Boys, Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad, and up and coming newgrass greats Big Leg Emma who I’ve been following for years at the Great Blue Heron festival. For the complete lineup >
John Brown’s Body @ Grassroots Festival 11.26.06
Here’s another reason why the Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg, NY is one of the top 10 festivals in the country. I haven’t been able to get my hands on their exhilarating performance from G’roots 2007 so this will have to hold us over for the time being. This soundboard recording is well worth your time check the samples below to hear for yourself. “John Brown’s Body is in the midst of its tenth year of performing, supporting its latest studio album, Pressure Points (Easy Star Records). The eight-member group (from Ithaca, NY and Boston) has developed a strong reputation for it’s originality and superb, energetic live show during its ten-year career. Pressure Points has spent…
