Interview: Tara Nevins
Tara Nevins is an amazing fiddle player and a passionate songwriter. She is also a member of Donna the Buffalo. Her latest release is her solo album, Wood and Stone. Tara called in to discuss her love of old-time music, how Donna the Buffalo came together and working with Larry Campbell. McClain Johnson: How old were you when you first started playing fiddle? Tara Nevins: Fifth Grade. McClain Johnson: Do you remember the first song you learned how to play? Tara Nevins: Heck no. I started out playing classical music in school. Then I discovered fiddle later on. I went to college for classical studies too. I discovered old-time music, traditional fiddle music. When I…
Review: Tara Nevins “Wood and Stoneâ€
ITHACA, NY – To say Tara Nevins second solo release “Wood and Stone†is catchy would be a gross understatement. The Donna the Buffalo co-founder has long made bluegrass/roots-rock fans revel in harmonic vocals and catchy fiddle licks. But something magical happens in “Wood and Stone†when producer/musician Larry Campbell and Tara Nevins got together: Synergy in the truest form. When 1 +1 = 3. Stream: “You’re Still Driving That Truck” [Audio clip: view full post to listen] The album kicks off the self-titled track with a signature catchy beat, lyrics memories of family, while fiddles provide a nice chorus backdrop. “All I Know is that Wood and Stone’ll be the better part of me,†repeats…

Donna The Buffalo Live @ Artpark NY 08.20.2008
LEWISTON, NY – Donna The Buffalo is probably the band that I’ve seen the most over the past several years that I’ve been going to shows. We see them multiple times each year at Blue Heron Festival and the Grassroots Festival. Every time out is a good show. I especially like the one’s in Western New York because the ‘Herd has a great showing and it’s a chance to catch up with friends that I don’t see every day. This was the smallest turn out of any show that I’ve been to at Art Park this summer but it made it even better. The entire ‘herd was dancing and swaying the night away as DTB…
Artpark Lineup 2008
Artpark in Lewiston, NY features the best venue in WNY for free concerts. Its located in the gorge of the Niagara River just below Niagara Falls. The best part about these Tuesday and Wednesday concerts is they are FREE! I’m looking forward to seeing jam greats Gov’t Mule, moe., Dickey Betts & The Great Southern, and Donna The Buffalo.
