New Studio Album from Toubab Krewe “TK2″

Toubab Krewe

Listen to “Holy Grail” off the new album while you read: TBKTrack by Shore Fire One of our favorite bands Toubab Krewe, the rock quintet from Asheville, NC with a West African musical education, will be releasing their latest studio album ‘TK2,’on September 7th on National Geo Music. A favorite at festivals worldwide from Tennessee’s Bonnaroo to Africa’s Festival au Desert and at packed shows around the U.S., the longtime friends formed the band in 2005 and traveled to Mali, Guinea, and Ivory Coast to study and perform. The band’s name, like their music, is a fusion of cultures: “Toubab” means “foreigner” in Mali’s Bambara language and “Krewe” is a salute to New Orleans. Toubab…

Album Review | Keller & The Keels | Thief

keller_disc1

Keller & The Keels: Thief Review by Tim Hurley Normally cover albums draw a lot of skepticism as they tend to be just excuses to pump an album out, which is usually comprised of shoddy renditions of popular artists’s song. And the same could be said about Keller Williams and the Keels’ new release, aptly titled Thief, if it were not for the oddly redeeming but sparkling choices presented in this collection.

Interview: Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad

GPGDS

Interview by Tyler Curtis Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, a band out of Rochester NY, is making a huge impression on the reggae scene. The band has gone from as many as 7 musicians, to now a 4 piece reggae dub powerhouse, providing you that downright kinky reggae, to that full dub sound. While they may not be considered a “jam” band, they present their audiences with a top-of-the-line good time, and music to match the concert experience. You can catch them at music festivals like Nateva this summer, and they are most likely coming to an area near you on their never ending tour. Interview with bassist James Searl TC: First let me start off…

New Album: Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad “Live UP”

GiantPandaGDS_LiveUp_400

One of our favorite bands G.P.G.D.S. has just released their 2nd album. This “best of” live album from select shows in 2008 and 2009 features original songs that fans from Maine to California have grown to love over the years. The production on this album which blends soundboard and audience recordings gives an intense live sound that brings the feel of a night out with Giant Panda to your headphones. Rarely will you find a band with such a unique  roots reggae sound. The band has the ability to channel the essences and improv of the Grateful Dead and seamlessly blend it with dub and roots reggae the likes of which haven’t been seen since the 70′s….

Review: Built To Spill – There is No Enemy

Built to Spill There Is No Enemy Warner Bros Released: October 6, 2009 Built to Spill’s seventh full length album, There Is No Enemy, finds the Boise, ID indie rock stalwarts refining the direction they established with their two previous releases, 2001’s Ancient Melodies of the Future and 2006’s You In Reverse. The album’s tone and production style offer a melding of these two albums though the heavy reggae influence of You In Reverse has clearly softened here. The diverse song structures, ranging from the full-on rocker “Pat”, to the melodic ballad “Nowhere Lullaby”, to the dreamier pop jams of “Done” and “Good Ol’ Boredom” also reflect the band’s recent stylistic explorations. Stream “Hindsight” off…
