After a stellar second evening of Umphrey’s McGee at The Riviera Theatre I accepted an invite to come enjoy Cosby Sweater at The Concord Music Hall. Cosby would be featuring Joel of Umphrey’s for the evening and it was sure to be a good night. By the time the circle of getting my gear and getting back to the venue was complete I had missed my opportunity to shoot in the pit. An unfortunate situation, but certainly not something I’m going to argue with a security guard over. I found my group of friends who had made it up to the show a bit earlier standing on the back riser in the venue and took the opportunity of a free bench to set down my gear and try to sneak out some stellar content outside of the photo pit.
Working like this is always less than optimal, but the musical performance was top notch and myself and the crew I came with had an absolute blast. We even met some friends we would meet up with Saturday at Umphrey’s. For my first time being in The Concord Music Hall I was thoroughly impressed with the place. Will definitely be keeping my eyes open for what’s happening here in the future when I’m in the city.
As for Cosby Sweater it had been a long time(Summer Camp 2013) since I had seen them perform. The performance was high energy, including a sit-in from Marcus Rezak of Digital Tape Machine and the full performance with Joel. The crowd was well filled out, but not oversold. Everyone was in high spirits, and the crowd seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Cosby Sweater seems to be on the up and up this spring and summer and I look forward to seeing what the group has up their sleeve next.
